Building Africa's Reference Platform for Genomic and Immune Data

Ethically sourced African genomic, immune, and health data for precision medicine, drug discovery, and AI.

Why UloGenes Exists

Africa contains the greatest genetic diversity on Earth, yet remains dramatically underrepresented in genomic research. This gap limits scientific discovery, precision medicine, and equitable healthcare innovation.

UloGenes was founded to change that reality.

< 2%
of global genomic data

Less than 2% of the genomic data in global databases comes from African populations — even though the continent holds the greatest human genetic diversity on Earth.

The result: weaker drug discovery, narrower disease understanding, less accurate precision medicine, and missed opportunities for Africa and the world.

Why Nigeria?

Nigeria's population diversity and size make it an ideal place to begin building a representative African genomic resource.

Why Africa?

African populations have the highest genetic diversity, critical for advancing global health equity and scientific discovery.

Why Now?

Advances in sequencing, immunology, and AI make it possible to build the infrastructure that didn't exist before.

Ethics & Governance

UloGenes is built on responsible research, local oversight, and participant trust. Before each study, we obtain all required national, state, and institutional ethics committee approvals.

Our governance model includes clear participant consent, qualified local principal collaborators, and approved rights to responsibly share de-identified data for research and partnership use.

Core Principles
  • Ethics approvals before each study
  • Clear and concise participant consent
  • Local qualified principal collaborators
  • Approved rights to share de-identified data
  • Protection of participant privacy and confidentiality
